Indiana Pacers

After appearing in the Eastern Conference Finals after a 10 year hiatus last season the Indiana Pacers will be hoping to go a step further this time around as they look to return to the NBA finals for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.

Having been swept by the Boston Celtics in last season’s conference finals the Pacers were hoping to cement their position as title challengers quick and early this year and despite winning their first game of the season against the Detroit Pistons the Indianapolis side soon were hit with a reality check as they failed to win their next few games which left them at the bottom of the pile during one point of the season.

Despite winning their first game the Pacers lost their second game of the season at the big apple against the New York Knicks who were determined to get their revenge on the Indiana side for eliminating them in last year’s playoffs and they did just that in a 123-98 rout. Key man Tyrese Haliburton was detained by a resolute Knicks defense during their match up as the former Kings guard recorded zero points on the night and was a shell of his former self during this fixture.

This embarrassing defeat was soon followed by losses to the Philadelphia 76ers and the Orlando Magic as the Indiana side were held to 1-3 record in their first four games. Although many believed that the Pacers were only a one season wonder, Tyrese Haliburton and co. soon proved that they weren’t a pushover as in their first matchup against the Boston Celtics since their Finals loss took home the win in overtime and handed the Celtics their first and only defeat of this season so far.

While they were able to defeat the Boston Celtics and avenge their Finals sweep the Pacers soon showed their inconsistency, they have acquired this season as they lost in their very next fixture against the New Orleans Pelicans and lost the momentum they had built with their win over the Celtics.

Orlando Magic

While the Indiana Pacers reached the conference Finals last season the Magic crashed out of the playoffs in the first round to the Cleveland Cavaliers and despite finishing a place above the Pacers during the regular season their exit in the preliminary round of the playoffs was a huge let down for the Magic fan base and will hope to go all the way this season as they have started this year as they mean to go on.

Having won their first game of the season against their Florida rivals in the Miami Heat their 116-97 victory against them came on the night of huge relevance for the south beach side who were commemorating their president Pat Riley by naming their home court in his honor.

After dismantling their rivals during an important night for them the Magic then hosted the Nets in Orlando and were victors on the night as a 29-point Franz Wagner performance sealed back-to-back wins for the Magic to start the 2024-25 NBA season.

Although many expected them to continue this fine form, the 2009 NBA runners up succumbed to their first loss of the season in their third game of the season to the Memphis Grizzlies in a game where they lost by 13 points and had no response to the Memphis attack. This defeat though seemed to be a small hiccup in their season as they beat the Indiana Pacers by a 4-point margin and young star Paolo Banchero had a career high 50-point performance on the night.

Despite this performance and heightened optimism due to it the Magic since then have failed to win a single game losing 3 games in a row to the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Dallas Mavericks respectively. Now with a 3-4 record and sitting in sixth place the Magic are hoping to turn their season around and will need to better than their previous few results if they are to crack the playoffs and go further than the first round.

Having already played against each other earlier this season and with the Orlando Magic coming out on top with a 119-115 scoreline the onus will be on the Indiana Pacers to make their home advantage count and take revenge on the Orlando side for their result earlier this season.

With the Pacers having the better scoring record with an average of 115.8 points per game compared to the Magic’s 107.9 the rankings will mean very little during this fixture as the Pacers could equal the Magic’s record if they do win against them on Wednesday. While the fixture will be tightly contested the bettors should have favorable odds on many fronts especially with both sides desperately rooting for a win to get back on a winning track.

Indiana Pacers vs Orlando Magic Player Stats

Player Name Points Rebounds Assists Steals/Blocks
Franz Wagner 17.6 4.9 3.9 1.5/0.3
Jalen Suggs 17.6 5.4 4.4 1.9/1.0
Pascal Siakam 20.3 7.0 5.1 0.7/0.3
Myles Turner 17.0 6.7 1.5 0.8/1.7

While the home advantage will be a huge factor for the Indiana Pacers in this fixture, they already have the historical advantage but in more recent matchups the Magic have prevailed as champions and will be hoping to do the same as the two sides meet one another on Wednesday. Despite this the Pacers should be the favorites to win this fixture as their last home result was a win against the Boston Celtics and if they can emulate a small percentage of that against the Magic the dub should remain in Indianapolis.
