We are into the 12th game of the Lanka Premier League 2022, where competition has heated up. The Galle Gladiators will take on the Colombo Stars for the second time in the tournament. The Stars had a poor outing against the Jaffna Kings, but they did come close, thanks to a spirited fightback towards the end. The Gladiators have found their form and come here with a win against the Kandy Falcons.  

The Stars are in a must-win game, having gone down in three of their four games. A loss here would make dent their hopes of making it to the playoffs. The Stars would feel confident, having won the previous game between the two teams. Their bowlers have looked good in the last couple of games, and the side would like to capitalize on that.

Galle Gladiators Preview

The Gladiators have got their campaign back on track with back-to-back wins. They defeated the table toppers Kandy Falcons by 12 runs in a close contest. The side has had a few issues regarding consistency, but skipper Kusal Mendis shall look to put them behind. Mendis would like his players to take inspiration from their previous win against the Colombo Stars and look to make it two in two for the season.  

Thanuka Dabare has made runs for the side and would like to set up a big opening wicket stand with Kusal Mendis. The middle order hasn't been consistent, and the team shall like to see partnerships between Azam Khan, Lahiru Udara, and Iftikhar Ahmed. Nuwanidu Fernand did well down the order in the last game, and he must add runs with Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz.  

Their bowlers did a tremendous job in the last game, defending a small total, and the side would like to see good spells from Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz in this game. Nuwan Pradeep and Nuwan Thushara must bowl good spells in the middle overs along with Lakshan Sandakan. Iftikhar Ahmed will have to do well in the supporting role.

Colombo Stars Preview

Angelo Mathews' team must win this game. It has been three losses in four games for the side as they come here with a 5 run loss against the Jaffna Kings. The star-studded batting line-up hasn't been in form, adding to the side's woes. They lost against the Gladiators earlier in the season and need to stand up to the challenge here.  

It was a batting meltdown at the top for the side against the Kings, and they will need runs at the top from Niroshan Dickwella and Nishan Madukhka. Navod Paranavithana, Charith Aslanka, and Dinesh Chandimal are struggling, and the side needs their contributions. Matthew and Benny Howell nearly pulled it off with a great show toward the end in the last game, and this will add to the side’s confidence.   

The bowling attack took a beating in the last game, and they need good spells from Kasun Rajitha and Navod Paranavithana with the new ball. Prasanna and Benny Howell need to apply brakes on the scoring in the middle overs. The side would also like to see Drakes and Naveen-ul-Haq put their experience to good use.
