It's always exciting when the defending champions return to the field of play for the first time the following season and that will be the case in this game as South Australia take on Victoria at the Adelaide Oval.
Victoria only just missed out on the final in the 2024/25 season though so South Australia can expect a very tough test even though they will be the home side.
There are players in both sides who are pushing for places in the Australia Test side ahead of the Ashes so there will be plenty of eyes across every over of this game,
All in all, it looks set to be an excellent contest to kick off the competition.

South Australia were able to win their final against Queensland last season thanks to a brilliant bowling display in the first innings which set up the rest of the match!
Brendan Doggett was the key match-winner, taking 6/31 and playing a big part in reducing Queensland to 22/5 inside 15 overs and he is likely to lead the bowling attack once again.
Nathan McAndrew and Jordan Buckingham will be the other key bowling threats.
With the bat, expect skipper Nathan McSweeney, keeper-batter Alex Carey and opener Henry Hunt to be the main run-scorers for the hosts in this opening fixture.

It would be a long stretch for Pete Siddle to earn an Ashes recall this summer but there are others in this Victoria side who will be opening to produce the goods with the bat or ball to get themselves into the equation for the first Test in Perth next month.
Marcus Harris will bat in the top three for Victoria and he is one of the experienced players who will be backing himself to get back into the international reckoning as there are places up for grabs towards the top of the order.
Peter Handscomb is another who has missed the boat but at the other end of the spectrum we have the pace of Fergus O'Neill who has an excellent four day record and spinner Todd Murphy who is a very consistent spinner.
Victoria look strong but this will be a stern test when this game gets underway.

As ever, the weather is not quite as hot and sunny in Adelaide but it will still be approaching 27 degrees on every day. There will be plenty of cloud but no rain across the four days.

The Adelaide Oval is one of the most picturesque grounds in Australia and an excellent place for batting. Whoever bats first will be looking to hit around 320-250.
Very few captains at international or domestic level ever choose to bowl first in Australia and despite the overhead conditions we expect both skippers to choose to bat first if they win the toss.
