If only Chelsea had produced this kind of form under Frank Lampard, they would likely be challenging for the title this season.

With five wins and a draw in the six matches since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, the club have undergone a huge upturn in form to take them into the top four.

They’re now on the coattails of Leicester and Manchester United above them, with the Blues aiming higher than they had previously hoped under Lampard. Here, they will be expecting another three points to keep that run going.

As for Southampton, they are at the opposite end of the spectrum right now, with six consecutive defeats in the league. From their last 11 matches, the Saints have won just a single game in a run of form which has seen the club slip from the top three to 13th.

This will be a tough battle for them.

After Southampton lost 9-0 (for the first time) back in 2019, they pulled together some terrific form to become a side which, very briefly, topped the Premier League earlier this season.

Having lost by that same margin against Manchester United earlier this month, they have not managed to turn their form around in quite the same way. 

Despite their recent win in the FA Cup, they’ve only managed one victory in the league from their last 11 appearances, going back to December for the last time they earned consecutive victories.

Here, they will face a Chelsea side who are arguably the second-best team in the league right now (after Manchester City), and will find it tough to say the least to stop their losing streak.

The only side better than Chelsea in the Premier League right now is the runaway leaders Manchester City.

With five wins on the bounce enough to propel the Blues ahead of Liverpool and into the top four, Chelsea fans are sure to be optimistic about what the rest of the season holds for them.

With Atletico Madrid to follow in midweek, before Manchester United at the weekend, this is a huge week for the club and will go a long way to deciding their fortunes for the remainder of the campaign.

Here, they face a Saints team desperately low on confidence and must look to press home the advantage by picking an attacking side and being positive from the outset. 

They’ve scored eight goals and conceded just once in the last five matches.
