West Ham United FC vs Tottenham Hotspur FC Match Prediction & Analysis

West Ham and Tottenham meet in an engaging clash between two London rivals.

The Hammers started the season poorly, losing all three of their opening trio of games before finally bouncing back with victory at the weekend.

It’s three points that David Moyes’ men badly needed to kickstart their season, although it came against Aston Villa, who are currently searching for any kind of form themselves.

It is in games such as these, against top sides playing well, where West Ham’s current position will be tested. You feel the Hammers will pick up soon, but they will need to continue to improve in order to do so.

Tottenham keep winning football matches under Antonio Conte, which is the key to any successful team. They weren’t necessarily at their best in the win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend, but with Harry Kane firing on all cylinders, you don’t always need to be.

This should be a closer game than their league positions suggest.

Reasons to be cheerful:

     First league win of the season will do them the power of good

     A clean sheet against Villa will boost their confidence

Reasons to be fearful:

     Lost their last two meetings with Spurs

     Defence is yet to settle with new players coming in

West Ham have the quality, and the experience of David Moyes, to put their nightmare start to the season behind them. 

They will want to forget that they sat bottom of the league after three games, although three points can lift you a number of places at this stage of the season.

Against Spurs, they know the man they must stop. If they can prevent Kane from receiving the ball in a goalscoring opportunity, they’ll be halfway to a positive result. No one else in a Spurs shirt has more than one goal so far this season.

However, that’s easier said than done. With new signing, defender Kehrer, coming straight into the backline, he will need time to adapt to Premier League life. 

Scamacca looks promising up front, but he too will need time to settle and may find himself rotated with Michail Antonio.

Star Man – Gianluca Scamacca

The Italian has shown glimpses of quality at the top of the pitch for West Ham, including two goals in European competition. It won’t be long before he nets his first in the league, either.

Tottenham look like one of the favourites to secure a top-four spot this season, given their excellent start to the campaign.

Three wins from four games show real promise under Antonio Conte, who now has strength in depth in every position across the pitch.

The main question mark is who will score goals if Harry Kane does not? Son Heung-min hasn’t netted so far this season, while other players cannot be relied upon.

Their defence will always give opponents a chance, too. Dier, Sanchez and others are steady at the back, as shown in their two clean sheets this season. However, West Ham have a proven forward line and will give it a go here.

With four goals so far, he’s only behind Erling Haaland of Manchester City at the top of the charts. He looks really in the mood right now and any chance he gets in front of goal, he’s likely to score.
