The Benglauru Bulls seem to be waking up a bit late in the tournament. After a rough season, the Bulls TIED 2 matches and won their last game against U Mumba. Can they still make it to the play-offs? The Puneri Paltan has already qualified for the next round after winning 12 out of their 17 matches. Though they are one of the best teams of the season, the Paltan dragged itself into 3 TIED matches in their last 2 weeks. It may look as if they are paying safe rather than losing matches, it also indicates that the Paltan is not able to deliver the knock-out punch. 

The Bengaluru Bulls bounced back in their last match as they defeated U Mumba by 5 points. Young raiders Akshit and Sushil scored 18 raid points between them. The Bulls should have used their services long back. Left corner Ran Singh Raniya has been in top form in the last 5-6 matches. His ankle-holds and tackles have been deadly. He will be the key as the Bulls take on the Paltan. Pune has been going through a slight drop in its raiding performance. But they operate as a team and will be ready to take on the Bulls knowing fully well that they cannot afford another loss or a TIE in their remaining matches.

Former champions have looked a shade of themselves in this season. The Bulls have not been able to plan properly. Neither they are defense heavy, neither they are able to set the mat on fire with their raiding. Their raiding trio of Vikash Kandola, Bharat Hooda and Monu haven’t fired together. The biggest issue with the Bulls has been their defense. The Bulls should have changed their strategy long back in the early stages of the tournament. Their rigidity resulted in the Bulls slipping down the points table. But the Bengaluru Bulls have staged a mini comeback in the last 5 matches. They have earned 2 TIED games along with 2 victories which has helped them rise to the 7th spot in the points table after playing 18 matches. But a spot in the next round is still a distant dream.

The Bulls defeated U Mumba in their last outing. This was an impressive performance especially by their young raiders Sushil and Akshit. The Bengaluru defense was at its best after a long time. Veteran Surjeet earned 6 tackle points while Ran Singh displayed his master class to score a Hi 5. This should have been the tempo through the season. The Bengaluru Bulls intensified their attacks in the second half which took the game away from U Mumba. But the Bulls still seem to have too many problems. 

Though they have inflicted 20 all-outs in 18 matches, they have conceded 24. 

They have conceded 626 points in 18 matches which is quite expensive. 

Their success rate in team raids is just about 32%. Hence they are neither able to earn raid points, nor they are able to defend properly through the entire match. 

Captain Saurabh Nandal has been inconsistent. Left corner Aman, defenders Surjeet and Vishal have scored individually but not as a unit. Hence the Bulls seem to be in a state of panic throughout the 40 minutes on the mat. They will be up against the formidable Puneri Paltan which seems to be in hot form off-late. This will be the biggest test for all the raiders of Bengaluru Bulls. If they are able to breach the defenses of the Paltan, the Bulls will not settle at anything less than a spot in the play-off.

Puneri Paltan Preview

The Puneri Paltan has been one of the best team of season 10. They have qualified for the next round after winning 12 out of their 17 matches. They have retained the core from the team that finished as the runners-up in season 9. In addition they signed up Iranian all-rounder Mohammedreza which has upgraded their defense. The Paltan has worked on the principle of teamwork. Their trio of raiders and bunch of defenders have been consistent and ruthless. But in their last 5 matches, the Paltan has gone through several interesting experiences. They have settled for 3 TIED games in their last 2 weeks. The Paltan was on a spree of victories since the beginning of the season. Have they entered the Play-Safe mode or are they getting fatigued? 

The Paltan scored a TIE against U Mumba followed by another one against the Patna Pirates. They settled for a similar result against Dabang Delhi in their last match. Though Captain Aslam Inamdar scored a Super 10, Mohit Goyat could not earn effectively. The Puneri defense was in decent form but the additional raiding points were missing. This may be considered as a bad day at the office, but the Paltan has to recover in time and hammer the Bengaluru Bulls to get back to winning ways. Their biggest strength is their defense. 

The Paltan has the best efficiency in team tackles with a success rate of 56%.

They have earned 241 tackle points in 17 matches which is quite impressive.

 Puneri Paltan has inflicted 33 all-outs in the season. They have also dabbled with the Do-or-Die raiding option once in a while earning 60 DoD points. Raider Pankaj Mohite has been their DoD expert.

But with in-form defenders like Abhinesh, Sanket Sawant and Gaurav Khatri, it’s very difficult for opposition raiders to escape this trap. Add to this the spicy ankle holds of left corner Mohammedreza makes it further impossible to score. Hence the Bengaluru Bulls will have a tough time against the Paltan on their home turf. The Paltan has won 10 out of their 17 encounters in the PKL. The Paltan defeated the Bulls in their last meeting. It was a huge victory as the Bulls could score just 18 points in the entire match. Puneri Paltan would like to do this once again to the former champions.

The Bengaluru Bulls are back in form as they have lost just 1 out of their last 5 matches. Their young raiders were effective against U Mumba in the last match. Raiders Akshit and Sushil will be impressive but none of them will score a Super 10. They will have a tough time against the spicy Puneri defense. The Bulls will rely on their veteran defenders like Surjeet and Ran Singh. One of them will score a Hi 5. But the Bengaluru Bulls will lose their intensity in the second half.

The Puneri Paltan have become a bit predictable. But they will unleash their trio of raiders. Mohit Goyat will be back in form as the trio will earn enough. Defenders Mohammedreza and Gaurav Khatri will be ruthless against the young Bengaluru raiders. Pune will try and inflict early all-outs to tame the Bulls. But the Paltan may lose momentum in the second half which will make the match more interesting. This will be an epic encounter between two talented sides.
