The Gujarat Giants have peaked at the right time. They have won 8 out of their 13 matches as they are placed 4th in the points table. They had a few hiccups in the last 5 matches. They lost to the Puneri Paltan and Dabang Delhi last week. Fortunately they were able to avenge their defeat to Delhi in their last match as they defeated them by a margin of 5 points. Will Gujarat be able to get their revenge against the Paltan?

Captain Fazel Attrachali has been the architect of their resurrection. The Gujarat Giants were slow to take off but they soon found the winning template. Defenders Sombir and Fazel have been their main tackle point earners, but even in their absence players like Dipak and right corner Manuj have performed beyond expectations. Hence the Gujarat think tank has tactically used most of its players and have given them enough match time. None of their raiders or defenders are in the top 10, yet the Gujarat Giants have won matches purely on the basis of teamwork. Defender Sombir put up a fantastic performance in the last 3 matches even though he was seriously injured during practice. Sombir has a huge cut on his forehead during the practice sessions. But with heavy bandage around his forehead, Sombir has become more lethal. He has executed 31 successful tackles in 13 matches. He also scored 4 tackle points in the last match against Dabang. Right cover Deepak Singh worked in top gear to earn 6 tackle points. Hence Gujarat was able to neutralize most of the Delhi players as they won the match.

Puneri Paltan Preview

Puneri Paltan are having a dream run in this season. They were on top of the points table with 9 victories out of their 10 matches. But they have slipped to the 2nd spot after playing 12 matches. They lost to the Jaipur Pink Panthers in their last match which was just their second defeat of the season.

 They have one of the best balanced sides in the tournament. The Puneri Paltan seems to be tactically more confident than many other teams. They stole the show during the auctions by getting Iranian all-rounder Mohammedreza Chinayeh. This has given that extra sharpness to their defense. Mohammedreza scored 5 points in this first match for the Paltan as his ankle holds and tackles were swift and precise. Hence the Puneri Paltan executed a smooth take-off for season 10. They also have the options of raiders Pankaj Mohite and Aditya Shinde. Iranian defender Vahid Reza adds to the options while all-rounder Ahmed Inamdar can be used as a floater in some games. The Puneri Paltan looks well prepared to take on any team in season 10. Fortunately whenever the Puneri raiders have failed, the defense has taken over the reins immediately. 

Their fans are hoping that the Paltan continues this dream run. But will the law of averages catch up with them? They had a wake-up call in their last match against the Jaipur Pink Panthers. This was the same team which stole the show last year in the finals by defeating the Paltan. Puneri defenders could not rein in Arjun Deshwal who stole 16 points. Though defenders Mohammedreza and Guarav Khatri scored 4 tackles points each, the other defenders could not open their account. Add to that, the Puneri raiders could not earn enough which resulted in Jaipur winning the match by just 2 points. The Paltan missed the killer punch. But this can be a blessing in disguise for Puneri Paltan as they will be alert and proactive against such breakdowns. 

They will be up against the tenacious Gujarat Giants who can trouble them on any given day. The Puneri Paltan does not have a great record against the Giants. They have won just 4 out of their 13 matches which is quite surprising. Puneri Paltan were the runners-up last year but they lost both their league games to Gujarat. Hence this will be a high octane match for the Paltan as they will plan to not only avenge their defeats of season 9, but aim to remain on top of the points table.

Welcome to another entertaining match of season 10 as the Gujarat Giants challenge arch-rivals Puneri Paltan. Both teams have had a wonderful run in the tournament as they are placed in the top 5. Gujarat Giants have some issues in their defense. Fazel Attrachali could not open his account in the last match. Their raiders faltered too though they still won the match. Gujarat will be very strong in their defense, but none of their raiders will be able to score a Super 10. Sombir and Deepak Singh will play a pivotal role for them.

Puneri Paltan will be aggressive against Gujarat. Their raiders will score heavily in the second half but the trio will get enough points in the match. Pune will also use Mohammedreza for raiding as they did in their last match against Gujarat. The Puneri defense will choke the Giants but both teams will leak points due to unforced errors. The first half may be slow but overall this will be a very entertaining match. Gujarat may just surprise the Paltan with some surprising moves.
