Jaipur Pink Panthers Preview

The defending champions have been just above average in the 5 matches that they have played. With just 15 points they are placed 6th behind the UP Yodha. Jaipur lost their first bout of the season followed by a TIE against the Bengal Warriors. They won their first match of the season when they defeated the Gujarat Giants. They fell short of intensity in their next match followed by a heist against the Patna Pirates. 

MVP of season 9 Arjun Deshwal has been their most successful raider. He has earned 45 raid points from 5 games. But he was totally neutralized in the last encounter against the Pirates. It was veteran Ajith who crashed the party with 16 points even though he was off the mat for almost 27 minutes of the match. Apart from 11 touch points, Ajith added 2 tackle points to his earnings. Jaipur has used the services of third raider Bhavani Rajput but they have never tried the trio of Arjun, Ajith and Bhavani together. They seem to be overtly defensive in their approach. 

The Pink Panthers have a few issues with their defense too. Their success rate in team tackles is just around 30% which is quite disappointing. Left corner Ankush was their most successful defender last year, but this season he has not been consistent. Even captain Sunil Kumar has been blowing hot and cold. UP Yodha is currently placed 5th in the points table. They have won 2 out of their 5 matches. Captain Pardeep Narwal has been impressive in a couple of matches but the opposition teams have decoded ways to stop him. He could score just 2 raid points against the Bengal Warriors and sat out for almost 28 minutes. But fortunately for the Yodha, they have another star in the form of raider Surinder Singh. Surinder has been galloping away with raid points in each match. 

He has scored 60 raid points in 45 successful raids which includes 3 Super raids. He stunned the Bengal Warriors with a Super raid very early in his last match. All-rounder Vijay Malik has supported this duo quite effectively, hence the Yodha has not fallen short of a third raider. UP Yodha has a very unique strategy which they used successfully in the last season. Pardeep Narwal plays the side-kick to Surinder Gill. 

The Yodha should have won their last match against the Bengal Warriors. They led by half-time but lost a bit of intensity in the second half forcing them to settle for a TIE. But overall UP has a good defensive combination. All-rounder Gurdeep and left corner Sumit have been effective. They have executed 29 successful tackles in 5 matches. Defenders Ashu Singh and Nitesh Kumar need to be more consistent in the upcoming matches.

This will be one of the toughest test for the defending champions as they take on the UP Yodha. Both teams have earned 15 points after playing 5 matches. Unfortunately the Pink Panthers have a major headache regarding their defense. It looks one dimensional and slightly out of form. 

Left corner Ankush and Captain Sunil Kumar will trap Pradeep Narwal in the first half. Iranian Reza Mirbagheri will hunt effortlessly. But Jaipur may not be able to maintain this intensity in the second half. Raider Arjun Deshwal will score a Super 10 and he will be supported by veteran raider Ajith.
