The Pirates have peaked at the right time in this season as they are placed 5th in the points table. This will be their best chance to stake claim for the next round. But they have the Haryana Steelers and the Bengal Warriors up their tail. This will be an interesting scenario as 3 teams will fight for the remaining 2 spots. Hence Patna has to be aggressive in its approach against the Telegu Titans. The Pirates defeated U Mumba in their last match. This was a huge victory for them. On the other hand, the Telegu Titans seem to be going down the abyss. They have been eliminated from this season, but need to play their remaining 3 games.

The Titans lost to the Bengal Warriors by a huge margin of 21 points in their last outing. Though young raider Praful Zaware scored 8 raid points, it was Iranian all-rounder Milad Jabbari who 9 tackle points. But the Titans could not inspire themselves to contribute as a team and hence got hammered. Will this be the case against the Patna Pirates too? The 3 time champions are running short on points and hence they need to win their remaining 2 matches. This will be an exciting match for the fans at the Netaji Indoor Stadium at Kolkata.

Patna Pirates Preview

3 time champions Patna Pirates had one of the worst seasons last year as they finished 11th in the points table. Unfortunately they could not gather any momentum which resulted in them losing close matches. But the Pirates recharged themselves at the right time this season as they have not lost any of their last 5 games. This has propelled them to the 5th spot in the points table. They are very close to qualifying for the next round but they need to win their remaining 2 matches by huge margins. 

The defeated U Mumba in their last match. Their resolve was clear as they hammered the former champions by 21 points. Raiders Sachin Tanwar and Sudhakar were on a looting spree. But the highlight of the match was the Pirate defense. Krishnan earned 8 tackle points while Mayur Kadam and M Babu added another 6 tackle points. Kenyan all-rounder Daniel Odiembo too contributed in this match. The Pirates inflicted 3 all-outs in the match which helped them knock out U Mumba.  

This clearly indicates that the Pirates have decided to go on a rampage in all circumstances. Right cover Mayur Kadam and defender Krishnan are the only experienced players in their defense which is a big risk. Patna may use all-rounders like Sajin, Rohit and Ankit tactfully in order to compensate for the specialist defending positions. 

Patna Pirates have conceded 22 all-outs this season but have recovered by inflicting 29. Their success rate in team raids has improved to almost 40% while their efficiency in team tackles has gone up to 39%.  

Raider Sachin Tanwar will have to bear the weight of expectations of all their fans.  He has a dynamic partner in the form of M Sudhakar. The Titans have been eliminated from the tournament after winning just 2 out of their 19 matches. This is similar to what they went through last season. The Telegu Titans got hammered by the Bengal Warriors in their last match. Pawan Sehrawat did score 6 raid points but it was the young raider Praful Zaware who impressed the most with 8 raid points. But the highest scorer for the Telegu Titans was their Iranian defender Milad Jabbari who earned 9 tackle points. If only the other team members could contribute, the Titans would have been placed much higher in the points table. 

One of their biggest weaknesses is their over dependence on Pawan. Though he is one of the legends of the game, but opposition teams have decoded his style. This results in Pawan remaining off the mat for long duration. In such cases the Titans need to come up with a backup plan. The Titans could not forge a back-up team of raiders and all-rounders. Even if they tried out a few youngsters, they never gave them a long rope.

The Telegu Titans are on top of a lot of unwanted lists. They lead in the list of most all-outs conceded. Titans have conceded 47 all-outs in 19 matches which averages to over 2 every match. 

Their success rate in team raids is just 30% while their efficiency in team tackles is 34%. This is the lowest by any team.

The Titans have conceded 845 team points in the season which is the highest by any team.

Though the Titans have a very good record against the Pirates, it may not mean much in this encounter. They have won 10 out of their 22 encounters. Titans beat the Pirates convincingly in one of their encounters last season while they lost another game by just a point. This will give them a lot of confidence as they face a new look Patna Pirates once again. Right raider Robin Chaudhary and all-rounder Hamid Nader need to be used more efficiently by the Titans as they can spoil the party for the Pirates who will be desperate to win this match in order to achieve their qualification of the next round.

The Patna Pirates will enter the mat with a clear mandate. Smash the Telegu Titans and secure the berth to the next round. Hence raiders Sachin Tanwar and M Sudhakar will be aggressive from their first raid. Both may end up scoring a Super 10 each. The Patna defense will be venomous as they will sting the Telegu Titans into submission. Patan may inflict at least 3 all-outs on their opponents. This will be essential for the Pirates as they have to secure points as well as improve their score difference.

The Titans need to rejuvenate themselves for such a challenge. Though they have been eliminated, Telegu Titans needs to put up a good fight. Pawan Sehrawat may not earn a Super 10, but raiders Praful Zaware and all-rounder Milad Jabbari will be impressive. Corners Mohit and Ankit may surprise the Patna raiders in the first half. Unfortunately, the Titans may lose steam in the last 20 minutes as the Patna Pirates will unleash mayhem. This will be the final outing for both the teams at Kolkata.
