After a couple of poor seasons, the Patna Pirates made a strong comeback last season, finishing the league stages in fourth place with 13 wins, 7 losses, and 2 ties in 22 matches. Unfortunately, they couldn't go all the way, losing to the Haryana Steelers 32-23 in a controversial semi-final.

Despite Devank's heroics last season, the Pirates had to let him go in the auction. They found a like-for-like replacement in the experienced Maninder Singh, who has two PKL trophies to his name. Ayan and M. Sudhakar are the other two raiders who will support Maninder.

On the defensive end, Sanket Sawant and Sombir are an upgrade from last season, covering the two weak links they previously had. Ankit and Deepak remain absolutely vital on defense; both players averaged close to three tackle points per game at a much higher efficiency last season.

U.P. Yoddha Preview

The UP Yoddhas are off to a flying start to their season after they decimated the Telugu Titans. The contest was close until the final five minutes, when it went completely in favor of the UP Yoddhas, courtesy of Gagan Gowda, who finished with 14 raid points (10 touch and 4 bonus). His double super raids put the Yoddhas ahead when the momentum was against them.

In his first outing as a Yoddha, Guman Singh stepped up, scoring 7 raid points, while Bhavani Rajput also garnered four raid points. The Yoddha's raiders combined for a total of 24 raid points out of their team's 40.

On the defensive end, it was their captain Sumit who had the best night of his PKL career, achieving a record eight tackle points, which contributed to the 11 tackle points their defense scored. Hitesh with one and Ashu Singh with two tackle points were equally effective.
