Dabang Delhi has taken off from where they left in the last season. The runners up then are looking the strongest lot of all this season. They are placed 2nd in the points table with 60 points from 18 games. They are on the cusp of qualifying for the next stage. The Tamil Thalaiva started off at snail’s pace and then picked up some momentum. They were branded as TIE specialist due to their safe mode operations. Even though they have the best defenders of the tournament, the Thalaiva lost steam in the last week. They lost 3 consecutive games and are placed 11th in the points table. The next stage is a distant dream for them as they take on Dabang Delhi. They lost back to back matches to UP Yodha, Haryana Steelers and U Mumba. Dabang Delhi also had a tough time last week as they had to settle for a TIE with lowly ranked Bengal Warriors. They had to force a tie before this game with the Bengaluru Bulls. Dabang has not won any of its last 3 games and this will concern them as they need to sharpen their approach. This will be the first “Panga” of the triple panga day.
Tamil Thalaiva has always been a maverick team. Their fans are very emotional and the team has been through a roller-coaster ride this season. They started off with some close games and they settled for TIE’s. Slowly they were branded as TIE specialists. They have forced 6 ties in the season which is the highest among all the teams. If they would have pushed themselves by taking calculated risks, they could have won 3-4 of these tied games. They would have been at a different position in the points table. But mid-season, the Thalaiva roared and started winning games which got them up to the 5th place in the points table. But soon fatigue caught up and they have lost their last 3 games.
They have the best defenders in town in the form of Sagar and Surjeet. Both of them have been phenomenal throughout. In fact Sagar has executed 65 successful tackles and has earned 8 high 5’s. He tops the list in both categories. Sagar and Surjeet have earned 122 tackle points between them, yet the Thalaiva is languishing at the 11th place.
Tamil Thalaiva lost raider Prapanjan very early in the season due to injury and they did not have a battery of raiders. Late in the season, Manjeet and Ajinky Pawar emerged as reliable raiders but till then the Thalaiva had not earned enough to win games. The Tied games actually did more harm than good to the Thalaiva. Now they have pride and fans to play for. But they have a few consolation points to take inspiration from. They met Dabang on the first day of the new-year and forced a TIE. The Dabang’s also look a bit fatigued as they have not won any of their last 3 games. This could be the game where the Thalaiva roars to spoil the party for Dabang Delhi.
Runner’s up of the last season have pushed side all other teams through the season. They have remained in the top 3 consistently only to go through a bad patch before the next stage. With Naveen Express running on time, Dabang Delhi won their first 9 games. Post that they suffered hiccups as Naveen and Joginder were injured. They lost a few games only to come back on track. Naveen Kumar is back in top gear and Dabang made a good comeback. But they have suffered technical snags in the last few games. They lost to the Jaipur Pink Panthers and then had to tie games with the Bengaluru Bulls and Bengal Warriors. This has exposed their defence and can trouble them in the knock-out stage.
Naveen continues to earn points consistently, but their defence is not able to trap the opposition raiders. Veteran Jeeva and Manjit Chillar have committed unforced errors off late. They look fatigued but Dabang has reached the last stage of the race.
Currently placed 2nd behind the Patna Pirates who have already qualified for the play-off, Dabang Delhi still needs cushion of some points so that they remain the top 2 in the points table. Dabang has 2 more games after this one and they will try and win all of them.
Naveen has got good support from all-rounder Vijay and Ashu Malik. Dabang needs to use Sandeep Narwal in more in raids as he can create panic in the opposition camp. Left corner Joginder Narwal and defender Krishnan Dhull will have to work overtime if in case Jeeva and Manjit are not able to deliver.
They met the Thalaiva’s on the first day of 2022 and were forced to share honours.
This will be an interesting game as Dabang will be pressing for victory while the Thalaiva will be more interested in spoiling their party. Tamil Thalaiva have the best defenders in the form of Sagar and Surjeet. They will target Naveen Kumar so as to keep him off the mat for long periods. Raiders Manjeet and Ajinkya Pawar will try and exploit the fatigued Manjit Chillar and Jeeva to earn regular points.
Dabang will once again depend on Naveen for a good harvest. Vijay, Ashu Malik and Sandeep Narwal will add to his efforts. The fate of Dabang’s hangs on their defence. If they have an off day or commit too many unforced errors, the Thalaiva will have the last roar even if Naveen Kumar earns heavily. Dabang’s have to careful about this. If they stick to the basics, they will be able to beat the out of form Thalaiva. But kabaddi is a funny game!!!!!
Dabang Delhi will win.
