The Tamil Thalaiva has disappointed its fans in their last few matches. Tactical blunders and loss of intensity have been the primary reasons.  Tamil went down by a point against the Jaipur Pink Panthers followed by a drubbing at the hands of the Haryana Steelers. They tried to corner the Pink Panthers only to miscalculate their last raid. Tamil Thalaiva started off in style but currently they have been pushed to the 11th spot in the points table. 

The Gujara Giants look very strong and determined. The inclusion of Fazel Attrachali to their squad has brought back its original flavor. The Giants lost 3 consecutive games last week. This was a big shock to their fans and everyone thought that the Giants have taken a wrong turn in their journey. Fortunately they recharged themselves to win against the UP Yodha in their last match. Raider Rakesh and Captain Fazel were the architects of this victory. They will be up against the Tamil Thalaiva who have run out of gas. But the Giants have not defeated the Thalaiva since season 8. Hence this bout is expected to be explosive.

Tamil Thalaivas Preview

One of the most vibrant teams of season 10 is struggling. The Tamil Thalaiva started the season with some spectacular results. They shocked Dabang Delhi in their first match and then posted a victory against the Telegu Titans. Since then they have lost 4 matches on the trot which has pushed them down the points table. They lost to the Jaipur Pink Panthers by just 1 point, a match they should have won. 

Tamil Thalaiva was winning due to the exploits of their raiders Narender Kandola and Ajinkya Pawar. But both guns have fallen silent and the Thalaiva has not been able to adapt. Himanshu Singh and Himanshu Narwal were brought in as replacements but that move have not yielded much results. Tamil Thalaiva is now totally dependent on its defense. Captain Sagar and Sahil Gulia have been rock solid but one can’t win a match without raiding income. In fact left corner Sahil Gulia was devastating in the last match where he scored 10 tackle points. His performance was better than the raiders, still the Thalaiva could not survive the onslaught against the UP Yodha. 

The men in yellow need to revitalize themselves urgently. They do not have an alternative plan of action. Their raiding efficiency is just about 38%. They have conceded 8 all-outs in 7 matches apart from conceding 274 team points. 

The defense seems to be sorted for the Thalaiva, but their raiding has been fragile and predictable. Raider Ajinkya Pawar and Narender Kandola were action-packed last season but they have not been able to replicate it this year. Unfortuanetly the Thalaiva does not have many raiding options in its squad. Apart from raider Jatin Phogat they have the options of Selvamani, Vishal, M lakshman and Satish Kannan. But they seem to be unsure about their strategy. Should the Thalaiva go all out or totally on the defensive? 

They have to answer this very quickly as they take on the Gujarat Giants. Though the Thalaiva has not lost to Gujarat since season 8, times have changed and season 10 might just like a never ending drought for them.

Gujarat Giants Preview

The Gujarat Giants have impressed everyone with their performance. Though they still have some weak areas, the Giants are placed 4th in the points table after playing 7 matches. They beat the UP Yodha by 8 points in their last game. After a brilliant start to the tournament, the Gujarat Giants lost 3 close matches. They lost to the Patna Pirates and Jaipur Pink Panthers by 3 points, went down to the Haryana Steelers by 2 points. Their major concern in all these games was their inability to score raid points in the second half. The Gujarat Giants are also not sure about their strategy. They do slow down the pace of the game and strangle their opponents, but their counter attacks are not dangerous. Hence they fall short of quick raid points at crucial moments.

Captain Fazel Attrachali has been deadly in the left corner while defenders Sombir and Ravi Kumar have impressed. Both veterans have executed 35 successful tackles in 7 matches. Raider Sonu was a bright spot for the Gujarat Giants in the first few matches. He has earned 52 raid points in 7 matches, but he has been decoded by the opponents in the last few games. Hence the Giants have not found any replacement for his Super raids. Rakesh scored a Super 10 in the last match, but the Gujarat has not been able to set up a decent raiding combination. 

Gujarat has a raiding efficiency of 39% while its success rate in team tackles is about the same. The Giants have inflicted 9 all-outs while conceding 7. They have executed 5 Super raids out of which 4 have been done by Sonu. This sudden burst of points helped Gujarat win a few matches but this effervescence has gone. Gujarat Giants have not found any solution for this.

Gujarat is placed comfortably at the 4th spot in the points table, but they need to build some momentum. Else they might go the Tamil Thalaiva way. Gujarat has generally dominated the Thaialva, but they could not beat them in any of their encounters last season. This will be their chance to defeat the men in yellow on their home-turf in Chennai.

Winning Prediction

Tamil Thalaiva face a do-or-die situation as they take on the Gujarat Giants. The Thalaiva has to come up with a new raiding combination. It will be interesting to see how they formulate this. Himanshu Narwal will impress and may score a Super 10. But he may not get much support from other raiders. Captain Sagar and Sahil Gulia will be aggressive from the beginning and they will not allow the Gujarat Giants to score freely. Left cover Ashish and defender Abhishek will be scratchy.

Gujarat Giants too have an issue with their raiding. Sonu may be part for the starting 7 but if he fails, Rakesh will take over. But the Giants will not be able to score freely against a tough Tamil defense. Fazel Attrachali and Sombir will tackle successfully while all-rounder Sahil Gulia will have to step in for some raids too. 

This will be a low scoring match as both teams have issues with their raiding. But the second half may witness some fireworks if the Thalaiva decides to counter attack. Unforced errors from both sides will add to the entertainment.

This will be a TIE.
