Telegu Titans finished 11th and Tamil Thalaiva’s finished 12th last season. Though this was a couple of years back, the memories are still fresh for the franchisees. They are placed 12th and 10th currently in the points table. These 2 sides started the season with a “TIE” and they are set to clash again in the new-year. Telegu Titans have won just 1 match this season while the Thalaiva’s have tied 6 out of their 14 games. Tamil Thalaiva beat the much stronger Bengaluru Bulls in their last game while the Titans had to settle for a tie with Haryana Steelers. The Telegu Titans have overcome major pitfalls and have worked hard in every match, but they seem to be going through an unlucky phase where they don’t win games. On the other hand, Tamil Thalaiva looked fatigued in some of their games but they went on to beat the much fancied Bengaluru Bulls. Telugu Titans Preview

Essentially a very strong team, Titans lost direction midway last season. Except for season 3, they haven’t been able to fulfill their potential. The trend continues this time too as they are last in the points table after playing 14 games. It has been a difficult journey for them as they grappled with the absence of Bahubali Siddharth Desai very early in the season. They seem have forgotten how to win games and are not content with giving their best in each match, irrespective of the result. 

Raiders Ankit Beniwal and Rajneesh have been their stars who have worked hard to earn each raid point. Rajneesh has one of the best strike rates with 67 raid points from just 8 games. Star Rohit Kumar is back in action while left cover Adarsh has become their backup raider. They played well in their last game against the Haryana Steelers as they were able t force a TIE. 

They will reignite their rivalry with the Thalaiva as the Titans will try out new combinations. Unfortunately they have not been able to get any replacement for defender Surinder who has leaked points regularly. Left corner Sandeep Kandola has been effective but inconsistent. 

Titans have been able to conduct only 210 successful team raids while executing 124 successful team tackles.

Hence they have nothing to lose as they move ahead in this tournament. They will try and spoil the party for the Thalaiva who still have an outside chance to make it to the play-offs.

Tamil Thalaivas Preview

Since the first season, Tamil Thalaiva’s have been going through an emotional journey.  The trend continues as they are placed 10th in the points table after playing 14 matches. They have won just 4 games but they have “tied” 6 which gives them the tag of “TIE specialist”. They started the season forcing a tie with the Telegu Titans and they will meet them again in the repeat of the southern derby. They are unstoppable when their defense is on song while they look ordinary on other days. They beat the much fancied Bengaluru Bulls with the help of some sensational hunting by defenders Sagar, Sandeep Dhulia and Mohit. They have the top defenders of the season yet they have struggled to earn points. 

Sagar is the top defender of the tournament with 49 successful tackles which includes 7 High 5’s. Captain Surjeet has also been in great touch with 39 successful tackles. 

Initially the Thalaiva’s were not able to score raid points but now they have got Manjeet and Anjikya Pawar who have earned points consistently. Both have earned 181 raid points together. Diminutive raider Ajinkya Pawar is a pocket dynamo as he is a DoD specialist too. He has earned 32 raid points for his team.

The Thalaiva’s have conducted 143 successful team raids and have executed 10 Super tackles. They have inflicted 19 all-outs but at the same time they also have conceded 21 to the opposition.

The Thalaiv’s need to improve on their consistency as they have the firepower to beat top teams. They will take on the Telegu Titans in the southern derby as they will look to beat them for the first time this season.

Both teams are in need of a victory and they will be aggressive very early in the game. While the Thalaiva’s will hope that their defense resonates and hunts the Telegu Titan raiders, they will also look forward to raiders Manjeet and Ajinkya Pawar exploiting the fragile Titan defense. The Titans will have to work hard as they have labored in every game. It is a matter of playing with pride for them as they do not have much hope left in this tournament. They will expect veteran Rohit Kumar to contribute heavily and make this a memorable encounter. The Thalaiva’s have an advantage as they have defenders Sagar and Surjeet along with Adarsh and Sandeep Kandola. This will be a face-off between the Thalaiva defense and the Titan raiders. Both teams are prone to slippery form, the team with the least number of unforced errors will win.
