U Mumba have some exciting young players, but they need to work towards a vision. Mumba was on the back foot throughout season 8 as they ended in the bottom half of the points table. They have a huge fan base and they are former champions too.
They started season 9 with a loss to the defending champions. But Mumba took baby steps and worked hard to forge team combinations. They beat arch-rivals Gujarat Fortune Giants and then went on to slay the Bengal Warriors in their next game. Both games featured different characteristics of U Mumba. While the raiders helped them overcome a tenacious Gujarat team, their defense worked overtime to help them beat the Bengal Warriors.
The introduction of Iranian raider Haiderali Ekrami was a masterstroke by coach Anil Chaprana. He surprised everyone with his moves and helped Mumba beat the Gujarat Fortune Giants. He scored a Super 10 in that game along with Ghuman Singh. In their next game U Mumba fell short of earnings from raids but their defenders came to the party. Corners Rinku and Mohit scored 15 tackle points between them to give Mumba a thumping victory over the Bengal Warriors.
This is good news for Mumba as both their raiders and defenders have started working in unison. They will have a wonderful opportunity against an out of form Telegu Titans. Mumba will definitely look forward to exploit a weak opposition to win the match by a huge margin. This will help them move up in the points table with a better score difference.
Raider Ghuman Singh and Jai Bhagwan have the support of raiders like Ekrami and Ashish. Captain Surender Singh is back in form as he has also improved on his leadership skills. It is unfortunate to see a group of fantastic players not able to forge a decent team combination. Telegu Titans continue their downward journey even in season 9. There was a lot of hope among the Telegu Titans fans considering the big names included in the squad post the auctions. But it turned out to be a big disappointment.
The Telegu Titans continue to occupy the last position in the points table with no light at the end of the tunnel. They have played 9 games in this season and have been able to win just 1, though that was against the fancied Patna Pirates. Otherwise there hasn’t been much to talk about the Titans. Young raider Rajneesh who was impressive in the last season was injured in one of the games and looks like he may not be able to return. Big names like Siddharth Desai, Monu Goyat, Parvesh Bhaishwal, Surjeet and Vishal Bharadwaj have all disappointed their fans.
Deputy coach Manjeet Chillar who was part of the winning Dabang Delhi side last time and has the highest number of tackle points in the history of PKL is a lonely man. He seems to have run out of ideas in terms of how to revive the Titans. They lost to the Gujarat Fortune Giants and then were thrashed by the UP Yodha. The Titans have become sitting ducks.
They will be up against U Mumba which has worked on all its shortcoming to become a dangerous side. The Titans need to learn from Mumba and recharge themselves. Raider Abhishek and Vinay can be their saviors. Defender Ankit and left corner T Adarsh have been impressive in some of the games and they need to be given a longer stint on the mat.
Abhishek was very successful for U Mumba in the previous seasons, he can lead the attack for the Titans. The Titans have to blood in youngsters and keep the superstars on the bench. Defender Mohit Pahal and Iranian Mohsen Magsoudlou have worked hard in the games they have played. The Telegu Titans have to try a completely new team combination led by Abhishek with young defenders so that they can surprise their opponents.
