In the recent turn of events, the BCCI and the IPL committee have made the decision to postpone the remaining matches of IPL 2025. The 18th season of IPL reached its 59th fixture, but due to the political tensions between India and Pakistan. As of now, the league is suspended for one week, and the remaining fixtures are scheduled to begin from next week.
"Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders," board secretary Devajit Saikia said in the statement.
IPL 2025 was in its last phase, but the decision was taken in light of cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. On Thursday, the Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders match was suspended at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala, due to the blackout in the city. In the late evening hours, Dharamshala airport and the nearby areas were shut, and hence, the teams travelled to Jalandhar by road and then to Delhi by train.
The decision to suspend the remaining matches of the IPL was taken regarding the health and safety of the players. Andrew Breetzke, the South African Cricketers' Association chief executive, confirmed that the team is in touch with all the South African players for their safety and all the updates.
At the same time, the Pakistan Cricket Board has also shifted the remaining matches of the ongoing Pakistan Super League to the UAE. There is no announcement for the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League.
IPL 2025 - How Does It Impact Team Performance?
Due to the suspension of the league, there is a bit of chaos among all the franchises, and the players are unable to envisage future events. The rumours are also coming in that the international players will be going back to their respective countries for their own safety.
Gujarat Titans are currently the table toppers, and they have a good momentum going on. Their next fixture is against Delhi Capitals, but both teams are largely dependent on foreign players. The betting odds are positive for the Gujarat Titans on the best betting apps, but there is no exact information on how the management will proceed after the suspension.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians are very close to qualifying for the playoffs. However, considering the unplanned situation in the league, the players won’t be in the right frame of mind.
