Team Overview
Three-time IPL champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders are the third most successful franchise in the league. They last won the title in 2024, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in a one-sided final.
The team looks considerably different from that campaign. Shreyas Iyer has departed, Ajinkya Rahane continues as captain, and Abhishek Nayar takes over as head coach from Chandrakant Pandit. Andre Russell joins the backroom staff as Power Coach after announcing his IPL retirement ahead of the auction.

Overseas Picks (max. 4 in playing XI)
-
Cameron Green — Bats anywhere from No. 3 to No. 7. Bought as the most expensive overseas player in IPL auction history at ₹25.20 crore. Certain to start every match and provides genuine balance with bat and ball.
-
Sunil Narine — Match-winner. Bowls four economical overs and opens the batting with a quick-fire cameo. Irreplaceable in KKR’s team combination.
-
Tim Seifert — Enters the tournament in excellent form, striking at over 200 in T20s over the past year. Primary wicketkeeper and first-choice opener. Finished as the second-highest run-scorer at the 2026 T20 World Cup.
-
Blessing Muzarabani — Added as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman following the BCCI’s directive to release the Bangladeshi pacer. Tall, skiddy, and a genuine wicket-taker in all phases.

Secondary Choices
Rachin Ravindra — Batting all-rounder who can slot into the top four and offers a left-arm spin option. The most likely overseas swap on spin-friendly tracks.
Matheesha Pathirana — Confirmed unavailable until mid-April with a calf strain. Head coach Abhishek Nayar confirmed at the pre-season press conference that he will be match fit around that point. KKR cannot count on him for the first five or six fixtures.
Auction and Squad Changes for 2026
- Finn Allen — Explosive wicketkeeper-batter who holds the record for the fastest century in T20 World Cup history — an unbeaten 100 off 33 balls against South Africa in the semi-final. Brought in as backup to Seifert, but pushes hard for a starting spot.
- Tim Seifert — See Overseas Picks above.
- Cameron Green — The most expensive overseas signing in IPL auction history at ₹25.20 crore. Bought to provide top-order firepower and genuine pace-bowling support.
- Rahul Tripathi — Returns to KKR after four seasons. Has consistently performed for the franchise and brings experience to the middle order.
- Umran Malik — Adds raw pace to the attack. A live option as a secondary seamer while the pace unit rebuilds around injuries.
- Kartik Tyagi — Death-over specialist in the Indian pace pool. Backup option once other options are exhausted.
Betting Angles and Markets

KKR enter IPL 2026 having lost Harshit Rana (season), Akash Deep (season), and Matheesha Pathirana for the first month — three of their seven contracted pacers gone before a ball has been bowled. Add an unresolved overseas selection puzzle and the absence of Andre Russell as a death-over finisher, and this is a team with genuine structural problems.
Role clarity is the first issue. With multiple high-quality overseas options competing for four spots, the right team combination is far from settled. Rana’s absence is particularly damaging — he was the primary death-bowling option last season and there is no like-for-like replacement in the squad.
The pace attack that remains is inexperienced. KKR are heavily reliant on Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine to generate wickets, and neither is at peak form entering the tournament. The middle-order problem compounds this — without Russell or Venkatesh Iyer, the finishing responsibility falls on Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh. That is a significant drop in firepower.
We back KKR to finish in the bottom four. The 10.00 outright odds reflect a reasonable market assessment. Do not back them to win the title. For a full breakdown of all IPL 2026 outright markets, see our IPL 2026 betting tips.
Top Team Batter (Tournament)
Tim Seifert is the standout top-batter pick for KKR this season. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer at the 2026 T20 World Cup, posting 326 runs in 9 matches at an average of 46.57 and a strike rate of 166.32. Before that, he scored 285 runs in 10 Big Bash matches for the Melbourne Renegades — consistent production across formats and competitions.
With seven home matches at Eden Gardens, Seifert is well-placed for the Orange Cap race. Eden Gardens suits top-order strokeplay and he will face a consistent volume of deliveries batting at the top.
Back Seifert as KKR’s top batter for the season, provided he plays at least 10 league matches.
Top Team Bowler (Tournament)
Varun Chakravarthy is the backbone of KKR’s bowling attack. Over the past three seasons he has taken 58 wickets in 42 matches and finished as KKR’s leading wicket-taker in each of those campaigns. Batters consistently struggle to read him, and he extracts turn and bounce on surfaces that suit his style.
He ended the 2026 T20 World Cup as joint-leading wicket-taker alongside Jasprit Bumrah on 14 wickets. His late-tournament economy rate raised questions, but the wickets came.
If he returns to full rhythm in IPL conditions, he can average two wickets per match across a full campaign. He holds genuine Purple Cap potential at 8.50 (Parimatch) — a market worth monitoring as the season develops. We are backing Chakravarthy as KKR’s top bowler for 2026.
Match Betting — Home vs Away
| Home (Recent Seasons) | Away (Recent Seasons) |
|---|---|
| Played 21, Won 9, Lost 11, NR 1 | Played 23, Won 13, Lost 7, NR 3 |
Eden Gardens has not been the fortress it once was. KKR won just 4 of 14 home matches across the 2023 and 2025 seasons combined — a 29% home win rate that makes them a poor safe-bet option on their own ground. Five of their nine home wins over the three-season period came in 2024, skewing the aggregate figure.
Away from home, KKR are a different team. They won 50% of away matches last season and six of seven away games in 2024. Their three-season away win rate holds above 50% consistently.
Betting angle: fade KKR at home in tough fixtures, and consider backing them in away matches against weaker opposition. Their away record provides more reliable betting value than their home form.
Toss and First-Innings Preference
| Toss Win % | Bat First / Bowl First | Avg First Innings Score |
|---|---|---|
| ~36% | Bat: 27% | Bowl: 73% | ~190–195 |
KKR have won just 36% of tosses over the last three seasons — one of the lower rates in the league. When they do win the toss, they bowl first 73% of the time.
The record when batting first is reasonably solid — 12 wins from 22 matches. But at Eden Gardens specifically, their bowling-first win rate drops to just 38%, making the toss a genuine liability at home.
Betting angle: do not automatically back KKR after a toss win. Their bowling-first record at Eden Gardens is poor. On flat batting tracks, backing them to bat first and score 190+ offers more reliable value.
Key Early-Season Fixture
KKR vs LSG at Home — A winnable fixture on paper, though KKR have won just once against LSG at Eden Gardens in the last three seasons. LSG enter the tournament with injury concerns of their own, which marginally tips this matchup in KKR’s favour. Worth monitoring closer to the fixture for team news before placing. Check the IPL 2026 points table as the season develops to track how early results shape the standings.
In-Play and Live Betting Tips
-
Powerplay session: KKR’s output is highly dependent on Seifert’s start. If he gets going early, the Over in the powerplay session is live. If he falls cheaply, the Under becomes the play. Watch the first two overs before committing.
-
Overs 7–10: KKR’s spin duo makes them effective at restricting opponents in the middle overs. Back the Under for opposition teams in this phase when KKR are bowling.
-
Team total (batting first at home): KKR have historically posted 190+ at Eden Gardens when their top order fires. The Over on KKR’s team total while batting first at home is a consistent market angle — though factor in their current batting depth concerns before each match. Final Verdict
KKR are not title contenders in 2026. Three pacers are already absent, the overseas combination is unsettled, and their home record has been poor for two seasons. We predict a maximum of five wins in 14 matches — two at Eden Gardens and three away — placing them in the bottom half, around 8th to 10th.
